How to choose a hotel in Kashmir
Location or budget first?

Location first
If your days are short. A Dal Lake or Boulevard Road hotel saves time on Srinagar sightseeing, and a Gulmarg stay near the Gondola gets you up the mountain before the queues.

Budget first
If you are out sightseeing all day. A 3 star hotel in Rajbagh or Dalgate is central, comfortable and usually better value than a lake view.

Mix both
Many travellers spend most nights in a good-value hotel and book one special night in a lake-view hotel or a 5 star resort.
Houseboat or hotel?
- Choose a Dal Lake houseboat for a one-of-a-kind night on the water, with meals on board and a shikara at the steps. One or two nights is usually enough.
- Choose a hotel for more space, central heating in winter and an easy base for day trips.
- In December to February, houseboats get cold. We suggest a heated hotel, or a houseboat with good heating, for winter trips.
