Kashmir 5 nights 6 days package: what to expect

This Kashmir 5 nights 6 days package is our classic first visit to the valley. You spend the first night on a Dal Lake houseboat, then base yourself in hotels for Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg. Each stop gets a full day, so you are never rushed between sights. The longest drive is Gulmarg to Pahalgam, about five hours with saffron fields and the Awantipora ruins to break it up. Every other day keeps you under three hours in the car. Your driver stays with you from the airport to your final drop, and your coordinator in Srinagar checks the weather and road news each evening. If Sonamarg or the Gondola closes, we move things around the same day. It suits couples, families with older parents and anyone seeing Kashmir for the first time.

Day by day

  1. 1

    Arrive in Srinagar and take a sunset shikara ride

    Drive: Srinagar Airport to Dal Lake: about 30 minutes

    Our driver meets you at Srinagar Airport and takes you to your Dal Lake houseboat. After tea on the deck, take a one-hour shikara ride at sunset. If you land before noon, we add Nishat Bagh and Shalimar Bagh first. Overnight on the houseboat.

    Srinagar to Gulmarg and the Gondola

    Drive: Srinagar to Gulmarg: about 2 hours (50 km)

    Drive about two hours to Gulmarg, a meadow basin at about 2,730 m. Ride the Gondola to Kongdoori (Phase 1) and, if the weather allows, up to Apharwat (Phase 2). Walk the meadows in the evening. Overnight in Gulmarg.

    Gulmarg to Pahalgam through saffron country

    Drive: Gulmarg to Pahalgam: about 5 hours with stops (140 km)

    Drive about five hours with stops, via Pampore and the Awantipora ruins. Saffron fields flower in late October to November. Walk beside the Lidder River on arrival. Overnight in Pahalgam.

    Pahalgam sightseeing, then back to Srinagar

    Drive: Pahalgam valleys by local taxi, then Pahalgam to Srinagar: about 3 hours (95 km)

    Visit Betaab Valley, Aru Valley and Chandanwari by local taxi. Then drive about three hours to Srinagar and stroll Boulevard Road. Overnight in Srinagar.

    Sonamarg day trip

    Drive: Srinagar to Sonamarg and back: about 2.5 hours each way (80 km)

    Drive about two and a half hours to Sonamarg. Walk beside the Sindh River and ride a pony (or hike) towards Thajiwas Glacier. If the road closes, we switch to Chashme Shahi, Shankaracharya Temple and the Old City. Overnight in Srinagar.

    Departure

    Drive: Hotel to Srinagar Airport: about 30 to 45 minutes

    After breakfast, transfer to Srinagar Airport. For flights after 1 pm, we add a morning stop at the Mughal Gardens.

Season and road notes

  • March to May: tulips and blossom in Srinagar, and snow often still lies on the Gulmarg slopes.
  • June to August: green meadows and the warmest days. Pahalgam and Sonamarg are at their busiest.
  • September to November: clear skies and golden chinars. Saffron flowers near Pampore from late October.
  • December to February: the Sonamarg road can close after heavy snow, so we replace that day with Srinagar sights. Choose our winter package if snow is the main reason for your trip.

How many days do you need for Kashmir?
